OLD OZARKIAN DISTILLERY PLANTING REPORT: HOME GROWN—FROM FIELD TO GLASS

IT IS PLANTING SEASON! While the weather hasn’t been the most cooperative, Old Ozarkian Distillery is working hard to plant when the weather allows. This year we are excited to introduce 3 new corn varieties! Although the new varieties will be for seed corn this year, we understand that NOTHING IS EASY EXCEPT THE TASTE. We are excited to use these traditional whiskey corn varieties with their unique flavors to develop whiskeys and bourbons in the future!

CORN FIELD NO. 1—Union: The field is planted and the corn is up! Two varieties of heirloom white corn—Looney White and Tennessee Red Cob. Two varieties of heirloom yellow corn—Pencil Cob and Lancaster Sure-Crop.

CORN FIELD NO.2—St. Clair: The field is planted but no green yet. Grow baby, grow! Our favorite heirloom corn, Bloody Butcher.

CORN FIELD NO. 3—Gerald/Leslie: The field isn’t planted yet. as we have to wait for the soil to dry between rain showers. This is an important field with the majority of our Bloody Butcher corn raised in this field.

CORN FIELD NO. 4—Union/Jeffriesburg: The field is planted and we’re waiting waiting for the first green to appear. This is our largest field, with our heirloom Jimmy Red corn.
